When push comes to shove, there is more than one scam on earth as it pertains to the beauty and vanity industry! We have all seen how many countless claims spoken by more than a handful of companies promising you youth, vigor, cleaner this, and more of that.

Certainly, this can be drilled into you to ad nauseam and cloud the truth to the point where you don't really know who is pulling your leg, and who isn't. This is the plight of the enormous corporate world put together to vacuum out you pockets with fancy marketing and packaging.

My point is that your value for the dollar you put out is vastly inequitable in comparison to what you receive in return. When we shop for anything whether offline in a store or online inside the web, we are all looking for instant value.

Many people will buy something once, test it, and then never buy that thing again due to their drastic dissatisfaction in the product and it's non-performance.

Like dominoes, you can run through a massive amount of products like this before you find a gem of sorts that you stick with for a long time. When it comes to your teeth, you are also looking for a something that will yield you maximum benefits while retaining important things like your money, right?

This is why you need to understand that the concept of accelerated teeth whitening doesn't exist in the over-the-counter market! Your money spent here is thrown at weakened percentages of household grade hydrogen peroxide and this is the way big companies want to keep it.

This strings you out and does not give you what you want, accelerated teeth whitening! We both know this is not right, however, your living with tunnel vision if you … Read the rest

Who wouldn't want to look and feel young and healthy for just a few years longer? From moisturizing creams to nail polish the list of beauty products is long. Tooth whitening is just a small piece of the puzzle. At-home whitening products make a whiter smile possible for many of us. People who otherwise cannot afford expensive dentist visits can whiten their teeth for a little more than a haircut.

But there is a big difference between tooth bleaching kits and other cosmetic products. Teeth don't heal. No matter how many times we hear – "Teeth whitening is safe" – we remain cautious. That is why health conscious men and women spend more time learning about different teeth whitening options. The reward is a brighter smile; the tools are powerful bleaching chemicals. However more whitening power usually means higher risks. Life is a balancing act and tooth bleaching is no different.

The goal is to find a happy compromise; a product that provides sufficient whitening power and ensures safety at the same time. Balancing whitening power with safety is not an easy task. There are many things to consider. Oral health is the first and probably the most important factor. Individuals with less than perfect dental health should take less risk. It can mean less powerful whitening gels or a visit to the dentist. Teeth whitening strips are less effective but are considered safer than tray based whitening methods.

However there is good news to those who want maximum safety. When it comes to tooth whitening time can substitute power. In other words the same whitening results can be achieved with less powerful gels and longer application times.

The following is a list of at-home teeth whitening methods starting with the safest option:

  • Whitening toothpaste
  • Tooth whitening strips
  • Custom fit

Its a sad fact that as we age our body does not look as young and as fresh as it used too, this goes for our teeth too. Our teeth will naturally discolour as we get older, made worse by years of eating and drinking sugary foods and coffee. Ironically your teeth may well be very healthy but if they are discolored they will not appear so!

So what can you do to stop the aging appearance of your teeth and get them looking white and bright again?

Trying teeth whitening kits

Teeth whitening kits have been around for some time but only during the last few years have they become really affordable and more socially acceptable. The beaming white smile, becoming popular by celebrities mostly, is seen as a good indicator of health and makes a great first impression.

Using teeth whitening kits have become safer too over the years. When the industry was new there were a few dodgy products on the market but these have not lasted and have mostly disappeared.

The whitening gels used now tend to be on the conservative side and tend to consist of Carbamide peroxide. The use of Carbamide peroxide is very safe for teeth whitening and any occasional side effects are minimal. It can cause irritation if in contact with your skin and eyes, so ensure you are careful when handling Carbamide peroxide. This is true for any whitening and bleaching gels though!

How do teeth whitening kits work?

Most kits work by using a whitening gel that bleaches your tooth enamel. The bleaching agent releases oxygen which gets to work in breaking down the stains on your teeth. This is why whitening gels are very effective at removing stains on your teeth.

Whether or not you choose to admit it, people are paying huge amounts of money to get whiter teeth. Discoloration occurs as we age and some people will do whatever it takes in order to have a smile worth showing.

But do you really need to visit a professional or would buying a name brand dental whitening system be better, in order to achieve good results? If you consider the cost as well as the results, you may change your mind about paying out thousands of dollars to a cosmetic dentist.

A dental whitening system works through the use of a special bleach or hydrogen peroxide gel. The substance is applied to the surface of each tooth and then left on for a predetermined amount of time. Unlike their predecessors, modern systems are quite easy to use.

At one time you had to mold a plastic tray and then sleep with the tray in your mouth overnight. The downside was a terrible tasting goo running down your throat while you slept, however, the upside was that you couldn't grind your teeth all night.

Items such as Crest White Strips have eliminated the need for the bulky whitening trays and bleach that stayed on overnight. These strips are applied to the teeth and then left on for fifteen to thirty minutes twice a day.

Some of the new lines are applied only at night. The reason is that most people, after brushing their teeth at night, do not eat or drink anything until they wake in the morning, therefore leaving the whitening gel on the tooth surface longer.

Teeth whitening kits also are produced in generic versions such as Equate found in Wal-Mart. Truth be told, they are just as effective as their brand name counterparts. If you are unsure if … Read the rest

Myth 1 – Teeth Whitening ruins your tooth enamel

Not generally true! Professional Teeth Whitening product suppliers mostly use Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide as the active ingredients in their tooth whitener gels. The chemical Hydrogen Peroxide (HO) is a bleaching agent which converts into water (HO) and releases an Oxygen molecule (O) in the process of the chemical reaction. Both Water and Oxygen are common, safe components of our everyday lives.

The Oxygen particles penetrate the rough surface of your tooth (even though they appear smooth, they are microscopically rough, rod like crystal structures) and dislodge staining particles. I like to explain this by imagining the TV commercials which show how a clothes washing powder with oxygen lifts stains from your clothing.

The “bleach” Hydrogen Peroxide is not the same as household bleach containing ammonia, or other low-end, acid based tooth whitening products, and can be swallowed, within limits. In fact our own bodies produce Hydrogen Peroxide naturally!

Acidic products can remove enamel from your teeth. Look for teeth whitening products using Hydrogen Peroxide which is pH balanced, meaning they have no, or low acidity levels. Putting acidity into perspective, you should be aware that everyday Orange Juice is shown in lab studies to soften (and potentially erode) tooth enamel by many times more than a professional hydrogen peroxide based tooth whitening gel could, if used correctly.

Myth 2 – Teeth Whitening is not Safe

Not true! Cosmetic Teeth Bleaching with Hydrogen Peroxide has been in use for 100 years. Most recognized dental bodies worldwide endorse tooth bleaching as a generally safe practice, when simple safety steps are followed. Any professional supplier of teeth whitening products will include adequate instructions for the safe use of their product.

As your smile is one of the first things that people notice about you, it's important to look after it. Unfortunately, the pleasures of everyday life can take their toll on our teeth and they can become discoloured over time through being subjected to things like tea and coffee every day and the occasional glass of wine – all of which are big culprits when it comes to tooth staining.

It's well known that there are plenty of teeth whitening treatments available, but there are now so many to choose from it can be difficult to know which one works best for what type of problem.

One technique is called Zoom teeth whitening and is a treatment that many people choose to undergo because it is both fast and effective. Zoom teeth whitening is a fairly new treatment that makes way for immediate effects, making it a popular choice with patients hoping to improve their smile.

For example, the Zoom teeth whitening treatment can whiten your teeth by as much as ten shades in a single treatment, which is a significant difference that you will see the moment you look in a mirror. What's more, the treatment lasts just one hour, making it an ideal lunchtime procedure for busy people.

What happens during this procedure is that the lips and gums are prepared so that just the teeth are exposed to the dentist. Your dentist will then apply a whitening gel to the teeth, which uses hydrogen peroxide to bleach your teeth to a more attractive coloring. Following the application of the gel, a Zoom heat lamp will be used to warm the area and activate the gel, which will then begin the whitening process.

The entire procedure takes no longer than an hour, which makes it perfect for busy … Read the rest

Teeth whitening has become a common activity for many who seek to improve their appearance, just a gentle effort might be all that's needed or for the heavy smoker, some more radical approaches. The chemistry behind teeth whitening has come a long way in recent years and there are now over 100 teeth whitening products to choose from. Reviewing them all is not possible here but let's have a look at the most popular and cost-effective methods and some of the products available:

Toothpastes
These tend to provide the least amount of whitening activity as they are intended for long-term daily use and would suit those who just need a general "whitening upkeep" to maintain that winning smile. Abrasive toothpastes that profess to whiten teeth are not recommended by dentists at all as they damage enamel and increase the likelihood of staining in the future. Chemical based toothpaste whiteners do not have this effect but are not very effective short-term. The problem is that the chemicals are only in contact with the teeth for at most 2 minutes and this is not long enough to have an effect on the very dense enamel of the tooth. This means that only surface staining is addressed by toothpastes. The most popular brands are Colgate and Crest Whitening Toothpastes but a widely acclaimed outsider said to be effective at stain removal is toothpaste called SuperSmile.

Brush-on Whiteners
These contain one of two chemical whiteners and are "brush-on" solutions to teeth whitening. The basis is that a paste is brushed onto the teeth, the paste then dries and remains overnight after which it is brushed off in the morning. During the night, chemicals in the paste whiten the teeth – quite a lot too!

The advantage of this method of teeth whitening is that … Read the rest

The following are a few of those whitening remedies, but with a few modern twists to make them more effective. Try one at a time and determine whether it works for you before going on to the next suggested remedy. Also, pay attention if there are warnings associated with a remedy.

Salt is a good starting point – it's handy and cheap!

The common table salt is sodium chloride and bicarbonate of soda is also called baking soda. Check out the toothpaste section of your local discount store and you will notice many brands now contain baking soda as an ingredient for whitening teeth. Although baking soda is a natural ingredient, it is very abrasive. Sometimes individuals mistakenly believe that anything "natural" is safe and that simply is not true. If used incorrectly, even natural products can harm you, like baking soda. Since baking soda is abrasive and can help whiten … Read the rest
