There are many factors that need to be considered before deciding whether to use a bridge or dental implants. Some of these factors are given below for you to determine which one will be appropriate for you.
1. Jaw bone preservation
It allow you to preserve your jawbone. This is because the implant treatment is done in an area where there are no teeth. Hence, the bone area will be stimulated and the problem of bone loss in the area will not happen. In a bridge, the procedure connects two teeth and there is no pressure on the jaw bone. This can cause the shrinking of the bone because of the absence of stimulation.
2. Better oral health
With this, the health of your teeth will not be affected. The healthy ones will remain and they will not be affected by the process. On the other hand, using a bridge requires connection with the other teeth and may require you to sacrifice the health of the adjacent teeth to provide the needed bridge support.
3. Easy Oral hygiene
Because of the easy access to the teeth done with these, the usual dental care can be easily done. Bridge requires regular flossing and this can take much of your time. With dental implants, the effort of everyday oral care is just the same as without the implants.
As the implants rely on the connection of the teeth to the jaw bone, it makes them last for up to ten years. Bridge, on the other hand, relies on the strength of the teeth that the bridge is connected to. Bridge will totally rely on the natural teeth that can also be subject to decay and diseases while the implants are made of titanium and are not prone to diseases.

Compared to other developed nations, health care in Dubai is of very high quality. Hospitals (both private and public) boast of the latest breakthroughs, modern facilities, competent doctors, and medical staff. People in Dubai have easy access to all their medical needs. As a matter of fact, the ratio of doctors to patients is very high in Dubai.
The same is the case with dental service in Dubai. Much like the overall medical care in general, dental services in Dubai are at par with that of developed nations.
For one, dentists in Dubai are very well-known for their competence in the field. Quite a number of dentists in Dubai have been trained in the best dental schools abroad, particularly in the United States and Canada, and have even undergone specialization studies in dental cosmetology, restorative dentistry etc. Good dental schools are also beginning to sprout in Dubai. As a matter of fact, the well-known Boston University has just signed a deal to open a dental school with the Dubai Healthcare City, this July 2008. This would mean that dentists in Dubai and from other regions will be able to study post- doctoral dental education with a US-based curriculum, bringing in the latest technology and procedures.
The move to further develop dental services in Dubai is probably part of the government program to improve its image as one of the best destinations for medical tourism. With the bleak future of petro dollars due to the decreasing supply and the movement for non-fossil fuel alternatives as a solution to global warming, it is just about time that the government looks for other steady sources of income for Dubai.
When on the look-out for the best dentists in Dubai, there are things that you can do to ensure you get your money's worth. … Read the rest
You may be contemplating undergoing dental implant treatment and need to know, "are dental implants safe"? Even though the treatment has been shown to be highly predictable with success rates in the region of 95%, the question are dental implants safe can be looked into in more detail. What materials are implants made from and how do they behave in our mouths after being implanted into the jaw bone?
Most implants used in dentistry today are made of commercially pure titanium or titanium alloys. Zirconia variants do exist however their use in dentistry is less common.
Why are dental implants used?
Dental implants are used to replace missing or damaged natural teeth. The implant replaces a natural tooth root and is able to help support, crowns, bridges or stabilize removable dentures. The benefit of having dental implants is that once completed, the new teeth feel and look just like natural teeth. The actual surgery can be carried out under local anaesthetic or IV sedation (for anxious patients). The implant is then left in the jawbone for about 4-6 months while healing takes place. This fusion between the bone tissue and the titanium is known as osseo-integration. The new teeth are custom designed and shaded to aesthetically suit each patient's requests and dental needs.
Unlike crowns and bridges dental implants do not damage adjacent teeth during preparation of fixed bridgework. Dental implants also prevent further bone loss which occurs after losing natural teeth. If properly maintained implants can last up to 15-20 years. It was initially thought that bone would shrink about 0.5mm-1mm around implants per year however newer designs are kinder to surrounding bone and are showing very little bone loss at all.
What about allergies to metals? Are dental implants safe?
Titanium is the most commonly used material. Although … Read the rest
Also known as pedodontics, pediatric dentistry is the subsection of dentistry involved in treating children from birth through adolescence. Pediatric dentistry differs from adult dentistry because children and adolescents are growing, and as a result their mouths are changing. Yet, this branch of dentistry similarly focuses on understanding the cause and prevention of disease, while balancing the need to form trustful, confident relationships with young patients. Moreover, this form of dentistry is also more focused on teaching healthy habits, adapting procedures for the needs of children, and supervising oral health as children develop.
As a dental specialty, pediatric dentists are usually required to complete two years of post-doctoral training that focuses on the special needs and concerns of child patients. Most developed countries today provide board certification for these practitioners, as well as a specialty permit in order for a dentist to represent her / himself specifically as a pediatric dentist.
One of the most important aspects of this field of dentistry is to teach children the importance of healthy teeth. Subsequently, much effort is put into preventing tooth decay and teaching habits and behaviors that prevent decay and gum disease. Indeed, many scientific studies indicate that poor oral hygiene can be related to poor social relationships, poor school performance, and issues with self esteem and confidence. Not surprisingly then, pediatric dentists are experts in communicating with children regarding eating habits and how they affect your teeth, brushing and flossing, and general oral care.
Pedodontics relies on a wide range of disciplines, techniques, procedures, and skills. While many of the attributes of child dentistry are shared with other branches, pediatric dentistry is modified and adapted to meet the needs of children and sometimes individuals with special health care needs. Behavior guidance, care for medically and developmentally compromised patients, and supervision … Read the rest
If you are afraid of going to the dentist, you should look into sedation dentistry. An office that performs this can help calm your fears so you can actually get through any procedures you need. Before you choose an office like this, you should get an idea of what to look for.
You need to make sure the dentists there have been performing sedation dentistry for a while. Since various medications are used, this kind of offering can be dangerous when done by people who are not experienced. Make sure the whole staff has training so they know what medications are safe, and they know the proper dosages. They also need to know how to prepare patients to get the medication, and they should be able to explain all your options to you. Otherwise, you risk a routine procedure going wrong.
You should also find out what the payment options are. In many cases, sedation dentistry costs more since you need to pay for the medication that is administered. Of course, it is often worth it since it allows you to keep up your dental health without feeling anxious. But you may need some options for payment, especially since insurance may not cover it. For this reason, look for a financing plan that you can apply for, which will allow you to pay a little every month until your bill is paid off completely. Most dental offices offer this kind of convenience.
If you are still trying to find a sedation dentistry office, you should find one that uses procedures that appeal to you. For example, if you prefer laughing gas, you should find a dentist who is experienced with this option. You might prefer taking pills or having medication injected intravenously. Just consider your preferences, and then look for … Read the rest
A wisdom tooth can be extracted (removed) by an oral surgeon or your family dentist. This can be done at the dental professional's facility and the surgery itself is usually done in a single visit, with aftercare being minimal in nature. If you are having all your wisdom teeth extracted or of you are at a high risk for complications (your dentist will determine that) then you may have your surgery performed at a hospital. If you do have prior infections, surgery will probably be delayed until the infection itself is cleared up. If this is the case, your doctor will have you take antibiotics to heal these complicating factors.
Your dentist will administer local anesthetic before removing a wisdom tooth. If several or all of your wisdom teeth will be removed at the same time, a general anesthetic will be used to prevent pain in the entire body. This will cause you to sleep throughout the procedure. It is generally recommended that you do not eat or drink after midnight on the night before surgery, so that the anesthetic can be administered properly.
During the procedure, your dentist will open up the gum tissue over the tooth and take out any bone that is covering it, to remove the wisdom tooth. You may need stitches, after the tooth is removed. In most cases, stitches dissolve over time. Some stitches do not dissolve; however, and will need to be removed after a few days but this technique is used less often. Cotton gauze pad is generally used to stop any bleeding from the surgery.
What to Expect After Surgery:
Recovery usually only requires a few days. Here are some tips that will help speed up your recovery:
• Take pain killers prescribed by your dentist only as needed.

This orthodontic treatment was designed by Align Technology Inc. It has also been manufactured and distributed by the same company. This removable tooth aligner is also custom fit for the person who will be wearing it, thus ensuring an orthodontic appliance that is comfortable and hassle-free.
The Cost of Having This Kind of Orthodontic Treatment
This kind of treatment will cost more when compared to traditional dental braces. Depending on the gravity of the orthodontic case to be treated, the minimum cost of treatment is around $ 3,500. It can go as high as $ 8,000 dollars though. The average cost for this orthodontic treatment nationwide is around $ 5,000.
Advantages Over the Traditional Dental Brace
When compared with the usual metal dental braces, these transparent teeth aligners offer several advantages. The wearer can remove these aligners when eating in order to avoid food particles from getting stuck in the aligner or teeth. Metal braces have a number of restrictions on the type of food that can be eaten because of this problem. Also, Invisalign aligners are easy to clean because they are removable, unlike a dental brace where brushing, as well as flossing requires more effort. As for comfort, these aligners are more comfortable than braces because it does not irritate or constantly poke the mouth. Since these teeth aligners are transparent, they are also virtually invisible and spare the wearer from being made a target by people who make fun of dental braces .
Disadvantages of This Alternative Teeth Aligner
Theprimary disadvantage of this teeth aligner would have to be its cost. It will be difficult for someone who does not have insurance to avail of this kind of treatment, especially if there is no financing scheme offered by the orthodontist. There has been some feedback about the … Read the rest
Dental implant surgery shows a high success rate of up to 95%. Majority of the patients who have chosen to undergo this procedure are found to be happy with their replacements and their new set of teeth. Therefore, implants show to be the best solution to the problem of missing teeth – trumping over bridges and dentures. However, even if dental restorations prove to be the best, there are instances when dental implant surgery pain and problems arise.
Though dental implant surgery pain occurs, it is very rare. Some of the common causes of dental implant surgery pain are fractures implants, rejected implants, poor implant placement, incorrect positioning, and low quality implants used.
One of the main reasons for tooth implant problems is that the implant failed to fuse together with the jawbone. This is called failure to osseointegrate. If there isn't enough amount of jawbone to fuse with or the bone has been infected, it can lead to failure to fuse with the implant.
Too much stress or overloading can cause implant fracture. Incorrect position can also cause implant fracture.
A person who has the habit of smoking or heavy drinking can compromise the success of the surgery. Moreover, this can lead to other problems such as implant fracture or gum disease.
What Causes Dental Implant Rejection?
There are several causes of dental implant rejection. These includes are insufficient bone to fuse, infection, stress, and habitual grinding of teeth during sleep called bruxism. Poor dental hygiene can also lead to dental implant surgery pain and implant rejection.
When there is insufficient bone to fuse, usually the patient is subjected to bone grafting to increase the available jawbone. However, some patients are hesitant to undergo this procedure which is why they try to find other ways to get the implant … Read the rest
Dental plaque is a complex microbial community. It is made up primarily of bacteria, but also contains inorganic compounds. It is estimated that dental plaque has approximately four-hundred types of bacteria, including, but not limited to rods, filaments, cocci and eukaryotic cells (a more complex cell, encased within a cytoskeleton). Plaque is considered to be a soft-deposit. It settles on teeth and gums. In its soft, initial stage, plaque is easy to brush off the teeth.
The inorganic compounds in plaque, mainly calcium and phosphorus, are what create the larger problem. These inorganic compounds are derived largely from saliva. When left on the teeth, the inorganic compounds harden. Once the plaque has calcified it cannot be brushed away. The process of the hardening of the plaque is referred to calcification, and the resulting hard layer is called calculus. The calculus leaves a rough surface on the tooth, which in turn provides an even more welcome surface for yet more plaque to gather and multiply.
It is important that teeth are brushed regularly in order to remove the plaque so that it will not harden into calculus. The consequence of not doing so is two-fold. As just stated, the calculus provides a welcome home to new plaque, allowing the bacterial components to multiply faster and easier, in relative comfort. The more plaque that is allowed to be deposited, the greater the area of calcification on the tooth's surface, creating an even greater area of a welcome environment for yet more plaque. It becomes a self-feeding cycle.
The secondary issue is that the same welcome environment that the rough calcified surface provides for plaque is equally attractive to other types of bacterial species. In addition to the prime environment, these species are also attracted to the natural bacteria in plaque. These secondary … Read the rest
